PORTER family in Great Yarmouth.

hi, i am trying to trace any descendants of joseph and and ann porter of great yarmouth.

joseph porter was born in 1845 in thurlton and ann elizabeth waller was born 1843 in lyng, they were married 1865.

they seemed to move around norfolk up untl 1875, then seemed to reside in G. Yarmouth. ann died a widower at the age of 80 in 1923 and lived in one of the rows of yarmouth.

would love to hear from any descendants of the porters or anyone who knew ann who could give me any info.

my great grandfather george was their son, he moved his family to yorkshire around 1910, i believe he was 1 of the attendants that was imported along with the switchback and hotchkiss bicycle ride from yarmouth to honley pleasure park, huddersfield. any info on this also would be gratefully appreciated.

looking forward to any replies.

hi rob58uk

how nice to hear from you...so if we are on the right lines here my great granfather and your great grandfather were brothers... i would love to know more about the family if you have anything to share...

i know very little as george moved his family to yorkshire 1910/1911, i do believe his other brother john came up with them as they brought rides from yarmouth to honley pleasure park and john was the manager of the switchback ride which was taken from yarmouth at the end of the 1910 season..

if you cud help with any info no matter how small, it would be great...

you can contact me at tracynoble@ntlworld.com

looking forward to hearing from you

Hi,
I have the Porters on my Husbands family tree. Joseph's son, James, married Emma Sumby who was from Sunderland. Her mother was Mary Ann Stanton. She was the daughter Of John Tripp Stanton, the brother of my husbands gt Grandfather.
Incidentally, the daughter of James Porter and Emma also married a Stanton who was her 1st cousin once removed. If you would like the full history I can send you it.
Carolyn
