Beach users urged to leave inflatable toy dinghies at home

Norfolk coastguards are urging people heading to the coast today (Saturday) to leave inflatable toy dinghies at home.

Winds for today are forecast to be blowing from the shore and out to sea on the north Norfolk coast and these conditions will present an “extreme danger” to users of inflatable toy dinghies on the sea.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “These and any occupants will be blown out to sea into deep, cold, choppy water where they are likely to overturn.

“Any that might have been blown from the beach, un-occupied, will also have to be checked by the emergency services, to ascertain all persons are safe.

“So if you are going to the beach today - do not take such items with you.”

People are advised to call 999 if they spot anyone in trouble on the coast.
