Bricklayers Arms death: man in court

A MAN has been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent following the death of a 40-year-old man in Great Yarmouth.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the death of Ian Church, who suffered serious head injuries in a disturbance outside the Bricklayers Arms pub in the early hours of Saturday, May 5.

He was taken to hospital but doctors could not save him.

Stuart Layden, 30, appeared at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court this morning charged with GBH with intent in connection with the incident.

An application for bail was made, but Layden was remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Crown Court on July 10 at 9.30am.

Todd Esherwood, 24, of Saxon Road, Great Yarmouth and 29-year-old Tony Smith, of Sidney Close, Great Yarmouth, both charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, will next appear at Norwich Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on Friday, August 10.

A third man arrested in connection with the incident, a 43-year-old, remains on bail pending further enquiries.
