The search is on for talented buskers to perform at two evenings of alfresco fun as Great Yarmouth gears up to host its annual food festival.

The three-day foodie extravaganza kicks off in September, but before then organisers are laying on taster events to tickle residents’ taste buds, and promote the growing cultural scene in King Street.

A call has now gone out to musicians and vocalists to provide live entertainment during the alfresco evenings, which are being called King Streat. Food stalls, salsa dancing and have-a-go dance sessions will also feature during the free events on July 30 and August 20 from 5pm to 9pm, on St George’s Plaza.

Trevor Wainwright, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, which is organising the evenings alongside the theatre and traders, said: “The King Streat idea is a trial that aims to build on the emerging cultural character of the King Street area, promote the café bar and new plaza.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for people to meet with friends, relax with a glass of wine or a cup of tea or coffee, listen to some live music and sample some of the culinary delights on offer in the borough ahead of the food festival.”

Andrew McGovern, from the Waffle Works, who is among the organisers, added: “Music is an obvious accompaniment to food. And over the next few weeks, we would love to hear from and audition any
local musicians or vocalists who could play on one or
both of these evenings to help create the perfect atmosphere.”

The food festival is now in its third year and will feature a sizzling line up of events from September 26-28, including cooking demonstrations and free tastings.

■Any musicians interested in taking part in the King Street evenings should call Gavin Dean at St George’s Theatre on 01493 745461.
