Catherine Blaiklock confirmed as UKIP’s general election candidate for Great Yarmouth

Another general election candidate has been confirmed for the Great Yarmouth constituency, with UKIP announcing who will be fighting its corner.

UKIP has put its faith in Lingwood guest house owner Catherine Blaiklock, who was selected by the party’s membership at a meeting on Wednesday, April 26.

Ms Blaiklock, 53, who recently fronted a campaign against a proposal for dualling the A47 between Blofield and North Burlingham, will represent the party in June’s snap general election.

She is also due to represent the party in the local elections on Thursday - she is UKIP’s candidate for the Dereham South seat on Norfolk County Council.

She described herself as “a Norfolk self-made businesswoman” on announcing her candidacy for the county elections.

She said: “Great Yarmouth currently has an MP that campaigned in favour of remaining, in an area that voted strongly for Brexit. I want to make sure the borough does not get sold down the river on issues like fishing.”

Ms Blaiklock, who is the founder of charity Nepal in Need, added that she wants to be the “new face of UKIP”.

She joins Brandon Lewis (Conservative) and Harry Webb (Green) on the ballot paper, with other parties still to confirm their candidates.
