A driver who allowed a young child to dangle out of a car window has been stopped by police over safety concerns.

Police officers from the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing Unit stopped the black Ford Focus hatchback on Gapton Hall Road in Great Yarmouth as it was travelling towards Bradwell after officers spotted two girls, who were aged five and four, standing on the seat on the rear driver’s side.

One of the young girls was hanging out of a rear window.

A police spokesman said the driver was reported for failing to ensure the children were wearing seatbelts and for consideration of carrying passengers in a manner likely to cause them danger.

The offences were reported on July 13 at about 5.30pm while police were carrying out checks as part of a clampdown on using mobile phones behind the wheel.

Not wearing a seatbelt is one of what police call the four fatal offences concerning driving.
