Catering students from City College Norwich got a feel for the heat of the kitchen yesterday lunchtime, as they cooked up a two-course meal for residents at an Acle care home.
Under the supervision of Richard Hughes, owner and chef at The Lavender House Restaurant in Brundall, the students sourced, cooked and serving a restaurant-quality meal to gain work experience and share their flourishing culinary skills.
Around 40 residents at Age UK Norfolk’s Herondale Community Hub in Acle, on Bridewell Lane, were the lucky diners enjoying a glass of wine with their meal.
Kirsty Hirschle, assistant manager at Herondale, said: “It was a great success, it really went down very well.
“We had a different menu to normal, with some salmon for main and warm fruit salad with ice cream for dessert.
“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and it all went very smoothly, the students did a really good job.
“There was quite a bit of anticipation about the day here and it was certainly a success, for our residents, as well as the students.
“I’m sure it will be a success in the future as well for the students to learn their skills.”
