Hemsby and Winterton may have been grabbing the headlines because of erosion, but the loss of sand along the Norfolk coast at Sea Palling is also having a devastating effect.

Lifeboat, fishermen, and businesses are suffering due to the dangerous rocks that have been uncovered because of the loss of sand caused by the weather.

Ten tonnes of bitumen were deposited at the ramp by the Environment Agency last week to help to launch the fishing boats – but the next tide took a lot of it away and they were still unable to launch.

Ten feet of sand has also been lost and the situation is worsening daily.

John Scott, secretary of Sea Palling Independent Lifeboat, said: “Rocks have been uncovered next to where we launch the lifeboat, which has been causing problems, although we can still do it. And the fishermen cannot recover their pots because of the lack of access.”
