Conman posed as Scotland Yard police officer to trick Norfolk woman into withdrawing cash

A conman tried to trick a Norfolk woman out of cash by posing as a detective from Scotland Yard.

The victim was called by a man claiming to be DCI Jack Wells from Scotland Yard Police and demanded she withdraw a large amount of money from banks in Acle and Wroxham.

He said somebody would meet her afterwards to collect the money.

It follows other occasions where a man claiming to be a police officer has tried to con people he has called in the Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Potter Heigham areas,

Norfolk police urged people to be on their guard when dealing with cold callers.

The said that genuine police officers or police staff would never approach people in such a way and would never ask them to withdraw money.

Anyone with concerns about such calls should contact Norfolk police on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
