Dogs have been moved from a Great Yarmouth animal charity due to fears the premises would be broken into so dogs could be stolen.

Yesterday a police operation swung into place around the Norfolk and Suffolk Animal Trust’s kennels on Fremantle Road.

It followed a report that a burglary was being planned at the premises with the intention of stealing some dogs.

There was a police presence at the kennels and the dogs that were the target of the burglary have been removed from the centre.

Christine Swan, kennel manager, said the security at the centre was good and that in her nine years at the centre she had never heard of a burglary plot before.

Nathan Clark, inspector at Great Yarmouth Police Station, said: “Police became aware there was going to be a burglary where some dogs were going to be stolen.

“We then put in measures.”
