East of England ambulance service visited Caister Academy over three days to teach pupils how to administer hands only CPR.

The training was arranged for the week of October 15 to coinside with the awareness campaign from the British Heart Foundation - restart a heart day.

Principal of Caister Academy, Ann Bridges, described the training as an “essential first aid skill”.

She said: “The children really engaged with the training and were able to learn a valuable life skill. It helped to raise the profile and importance of CPR which can only be a positive.

“On the occasion somebody suffers a cardiac arrest, the admission of CPR is an essential first aid skill.”

In the UK there are over 30,000 cardiac arrests outside of hospital.

Pupils from all years apart from year 10 were given at least half an hour of training. Those in year 10 will be taught CPR at a later date.
