Firefighters have been called into help a school in Gorleston after it suffered a burst water main and electrical problems this morning, leading to it closing.

One fire engine was sent to Ormiston Venture Academy in Oriel Avenue and pumped water away.

A tweet from the school said: “Just want to thank the fire service for their help. It truly is a community to be proud of being in.”

A spokesman for Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said: An appliance from Great Yarmouth attended Oriel Avenue to assist with flooding. A submersible pump was used to pump water away.”

Ormiston Venture Academy, which is run by the Ormiston Academies Trust, says it hopes to re-open its doors to pupils tomorrow.
