ACTING students at Great Yarmouth College worked alongside emergency services to provide the drama for a car crash reconstruction to hammer home a road safety message for school pupils.

The performing arts students devised two pieces of drama for an Accident Scenario Day to be used alongside the serious crash and drew on the material for workshops with year 10 students from six local high schools.

Firefighters demonstrated how victims – played by the second year BTEC National Diploma students - were cut out of a crashed car at the aim Higher Health and Social Care Conference at the Kings Centre, Great Yarmouth.

Course leader Nick Ball said the arts students, who devised peices of drama about the lead up to the crash and its consequences, rose to the challenge.

“The feed back about the students was excellent. The majority of school students said the highlight of the day was the bits our student had done and we had a lot of good feedback from the health professionals there.”

The Day drew upon the skills of organisations including the police, fire service and Saint John’s Ambulance who staged the realistic crash.

The aim of the day was to introduce the 100 pupils to the range of careers available in the health and social care and emergency services sectors.
