Great Yarmouth councillor apologises after complaint lodged by parents and headteacher

A councillor has apologised after a headteacher and parents of a Great Yarmouth school lodged a complaint against him.

Mick Castle, Norfolk county councillor for Yarmouth North and Central, apologised to parents and Alison Hopley, head at Alderman Swindell Primary School, after the complaint was made.

According to the agenda for the council’s standards committee meeting, held on Wednesday, the complaint - made in June - was for a “failure to treat people with respect, to champion the needs of residents, to deal with representations from residents and to listen to all parties”.

It was made after a consultation meeting over the council’s proposal to close Alderman Swindell and move it to the North Denes Primary site.

The agenda said the Code of Conduct had been breached, but that a full investigation was not needed. They said the councillor had “learned from the episode”.

In his letter of apology, Mr Castle said it was a “matter of sincere regret” if he had offended anyone.
