Pupils have been given a glimpse of their future environmentally friendly classrooms by visiting the factory making them.

The Year 5 pupils from Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy in Great Yarmouth toured the Net Zero Buildings factory in Newmarket and saw the specialist machinery used to manufacture their classrooms.

The school is undergoing a new building programme with Net Zero Buildings, due to be completed in the summer and which will deliver an extension to the current building and will provide an extra 120 classroom spaces and offices.

As well as helping to provide much needed space, the extension is fitted with an array of energy-efficient features which will have a financial savings benefit to the academy’s energy bill of around £5,000 per year.

Dawn Kightley, academy principal said: “The children had a really exciting and interactive tour and we’re all really excited to see the final product in the summer.”

Neil Smith, MD at Net Zero Buildings, said: “It’s a pleasure to show the younger generation around our factory and give them a glimpse behind the scenes of what it takes to build a modern, energy efficient classroom.

“At this age, children are so eager to learn and it was great to see the enthusiasm and understanding of how we build; but more so why we build.

“At Net Zero Buildings, we are creating a new sustainable and environmentally friendly building solution which won’t further damage the environment for future generations. In fact, we are helping to reverse climate change.

“Later this year Net Zero Buildings will be launching a design project to find the next eco-designer and secure an internship with the business. The project has been aptly named “Net Hero 2018”.
