POLICE in Great Yarmouth will be using hard-hitting tactics to drive home the importance of road safety at a special event next month.

Officers from Acle road policing and the South Yarmouth Safer Neighbourhood Team have teamed up with the Fire Service and a host of other partners to hold a casualty reduction event on Sunday, July 25.

The event, aimed at young drivers and car enthusiasts, will demonstrate the consequences of:

Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs

Speeding

Driving while using a mobile phone

Driving without a seatbelt

Fire crews will demonstrate the consequences of a road accident with a mock collision in which volunteers can take part to see, feel and hear the experience of being cut out of a vehicle.

St John Ambulance will attend and each organisation will have a stall displaying road safety information.

The event will be held at the Sealife Gardens, next to the Sealife Centre, on Marine Parade from 6 to 10pm.

It follows a series of high profile enforcement evenings by roads policing officers to encourage safe driving and ensure vehicles are safe to drive.

Sgt Adrian Hales, from Acle Road Policing, said: “This event aims to teach young drivers the importance of road safety by using hard-hitting tactics, which are both interesting and educational, while delivering a serious safety message.

“I would encourage members of the public to attend this event, especially young drivers, and in particular those interested in modified vehicles."
