Police have visited the home of the parents of a pupil after the youngster wrongly claimed his father had stolen a dog.

The officers went to the home of the pupil after Woodlands Primary Academy in Bradwell told police about the boy’s claim, which turned out to be false as the dog belonged to the family.

It led to the parents criticising the school for not checking with them first.

Headteacher Andrew Livingstone said: “At Woodlands Primary Academy, we take seriously our responsibility for the care and wellbeing of every child in our school.

“When a pupil reported to members of staff that they had witnessed a crime being committed, we would have been failing in our duty of care if we had not sought advice from the local police on the matter.

“Whilst we understand the parents’ frustrations, we are satisfied that we acted in the proper manner for our pupils and for the local community.”
