POLICE have spared more than a few coppers to give a cash boost for schools in Gorleston.

In the latest donation Inspector Alun Gibbs presented a cheque for £500 at Cliff Park High last week.

The money will be used to provide a canopy outside the school's sports café which is expected to be put up during the Easter holiday.

It was part of a £5,000 award from the Norfolk Police problem solving plan to fund community projects at local schools.

The canopy will provide a social and gathering place during sports fixtures and support the school's sports college status.

Inspector Gibbs, who leads the Magdalen and Bradwell Safer Neighbourhood Team, approached schools in the town to see what they would like the money spent on.

He said: “The main aim is to increase community engagement while encouraging local schools to open up their facilities to the wider community."
