A ROLLER skating gala is being held in Great Yarmouth next month – the first for more than 25 years.

A ROLLER skating gala is being held in Great Yarmouth next month – the first for more than 25 years.

The competition, on Sunday, November 21, will see judges and skaters from across the country descend on the town. Organised by Retroskate Roller Skating Club, the event will see skating star and international coach Jocelyn Taylor return to her home town.

Jocelyn, who coached Retroskate director Glenn Wicks, will also be holding a training session with club members.

It will be the first gala hosted by the club at the Marina Centre, Marine Parade, which was only set up last year by Gaynor Read and husband Phillip, and skating couple Glenn and Donna Wicks.

Donna said: “This is an amazing result for the club and has been noticed by many national coaches for the achievement of making a mark on the skating world in such a short time.

“Yarmouth has produced more national roller skating champions as a percentage than anywhere else in the country and it would be fantastic to see past skaters visit the venue for the gala. Our recent success proves there is still a lot of skating talent in the town.”

The club recently returned from a gala held at Clacton where they took 35 skaters making them the largest and newest representatives.

It was the club’s most successful competition yet, taking first, second, third and fourth in the set elements group and first, second and third in the older age set elements groups and also adding to that one additional gold, two silver and three bronze.
