Gorleston Community Cinema is celebrating its 50th public screening on August 3 at the town’s library at 2.30pm.

The classic film A Town Like Alice will be shown after being chosen by members of the audience.

It stars Virginia McKenna and Peter Finch and is based on the novel by Nevil Shute and tells the story of a young Englishwoman who becomes romantically interested in a prisoner of war in Malaya and travels to Australia.

Last Thursday at Gorleston Library, the cinema audience said goodbye to the committee chairman, Lewes Epps, who is moving to Scotland with his wife and two young children.

Since 2015, under Mr Epps guidance, the cinema has flourished and is now a well established film venue for the local community.

A cinema spokesman said: “He will be greatly missed and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

The new committee chairman is Ruth Bird.
