A Gorleston man charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a puppy has been forbidden from owning the injured animal.

Robert Loombe, 46, of New College Close appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after police investigated reports of a male dragging a puppy along Magdalen Way earlier in the week.

Norfolk police said Loombe was ordered by magistrates court to pay a £300 fine and was given a deprivation order in relation to the puppy, meaning he can not own it.

He was also charged by police with public order offences and being in possession of cannabis but no separate penalty was issued for these offences.

Loombe’s conviction has led to people setting up a petition demanding he should not have any dogs.

He had been reported to police for dragging the puppy on Tuesday.
