We are ready for the snap general election.

That is the message from Great Yarmouth Borough Council as it begins preparations for June 8’s vote.

Davie Wiles, press officer at the council, said: “The staff in the elections team are very experienced and are used to running more than one election on the same day, so they are very much ready and able to run the general election shortly after the Norfolk County Council elections.

“They have a project plan for each election that ties in with the election timetable. This ensures everything runs smoothly, ranging from appointing election staff, processing postal and proxy votes, and inviting and announcing the nominated candidates, through to setting up polling stations and ensuring the count goes smoothly.”

The cost of the general election in the borough is likely to be in the region of £90,000, which will be covered by the government.
