A ramped-up police response to knife crime in Great Yarmouth over the weekend has been hailed a success, after no incidents were recorded.

Police had an increased presence on the town’s sea front this weekend after two stabbings on consecutive weekends in the area.

Officers carried out hot spot searches on revellers, while also encouraging door staff at venues on the sea front to do the same.

The crackdown has been hailed a success by the town’s chief inspector Nathan Clark, after no knives were discovered and no knife crimes recorded.

Chief Insp Clark said: “I feel our message got across with regards to carrying knives in Great Yarmouth. I now hope this continues.”

The operation also paid dividends in another area - with a search carried out by one of the venues leading to the arrest of a man in possession of a large quantity of Class A drugs.
