Heathers' fete fun a boost for appeal

STAFF, residents and families from the Heathers Nursing Home in Bradwell raised more than £500 for the Palliative Care East appeal.

More than £630,000 has now been raised for the £1.5m appeal which will see a palliative care centre built in the grounds of the James Paget. The centre will serve patients from the Yarmouth and Waveney area whose lives are affected by life-threatening illnesses.

Appeal supporters say the centre will offer first class clinical care involving palliative care doctors, Macmillan Nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists together with many other services.

Meanwhile, money-spinning events continue to be organised by devoted fundraisers including a Moonlight walk in Lowestoft tonight starting from the Hotel Victoria at 7.30pm. Bacon rolls and refreshments will be served after the walk and fancy dress is optional. Tickets are £5 and available from Gwen 01502 572051 or Anne on 01502 539882.

Yarmouth's Hollywood Cinema will host a charity preview of the latest Bond film the Quantum of Solace in aid of the appeal.

The preview is on Thursday, October 30 at 7.30pm, the day before the film goes to general release to the public.

Dress is optional dinner jackets are frocks are preferred.

An EDP Society Photographer will be on hand to take pictures of guests with a rare Aston Martin or a life-size cardboard cut out of Daniel Craig, which will be on sale at the end of the night. Tickets are just £15 for the rear seats and £10 for the front from the Hollywood box office 01493-852600.

And on November 1, Great Yarmouth Haven Rotary Club presents a charity ball and musical extravaganza staring Rick Wakeman

The event at the Ocean Room, Gorleston, will also feature Elvis Presley tribute band the Blue Sueders with lead guitarist Ted Witton and a disco. Tickets are £45 and available by calling Screenprint Plus on 01493 440292.
