As fires burn in fields across Norfolk and Suffolk, forecasters have revealed it is going to get even hotter.

Despite there currently being a Met Office weather warning for thunderstorms across the region, Adam Dury, of Norwich-based Weatherquest, said that East Anglia will remain dry for at least the next week.

“It will remain dry this weekend with highs of 26C on Saturday and possibly 28C on Sunday,” he said. “It will stay dry next week and at the beginning of the week there will be highs of 29C and it may even reach 30C somewhere in the region.

“By Friday and into the weekend there could be highs of up to 32C.”

It comes as Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service revealed it has tackled almost 200 fires in the past six weeks, compared to just 32 this time two years ago.

Parts of Norfolk have not seen rain since June 9, leading forecasters to declare June the driest the county has seen for more than 55 years.

The average rain full for June in Norfolk is 52.9ml yet this year the county has seen just 6.5ml.
