A defibrillator cabinet has been smashed in Gorleston High Street.

The cabinet, which was empty, is outside the Natwest bank and had been installed by the charity Heart 2 Heart, run by Bradwell woman Jane Biggs.

Mrs Biggs has plans to reinstall a defibrillator in the cabinet but that plan has now been quashed due the vandalism.

After being alerted to the damage on Saturday afternoon Mrs Biggs said: “A lady contacted me telling me someone has smashed the defibrillator cabinet up outside Natwest, on Gorleston High Street.

“I moved the defibrillator to outside Fusion hair dressers when the bank closed a couple of weeks ago.

“I was informed last week the cabinet is staying on Natwest and I was going to put another defibrillator in there and reinstate it on the East Aid England Ambulance Map, obviously I won’t be doing this now.”

In another act of vandalism, someone poured milkshake over the defibrillator outside Fusion.

Mrs Biggs added: “The manager from the cinema went out and cleaned all the cabinet at Fusion, because someone had poured a milkshake all over it.

“What is up with people, what is this world coming to? Honestly sometimes I just despair.”

On a positive note on Friday Mrs Biggs celebrated a Heart 2 Heart fundraising boost.

CSS Cloud Computer Services on the Gapton Hall Estate held an open day to officially unveil its new refurbished offices.

As part of the day the company raised funds for Mrs Biggs’ charity and its ambition to install a public defibrillator on the industrial estate by holding a raffle with £5 a ticket.

The open day was officially launched by Mary Coleman, mayor of the borough of Great Yarmouth.
