Fans turned out in force across the county to watch Gareth Southgate’s side take their biggest-ever World Cup win on Sunday afternoon.

In Norwich, more than 200 people filled the OPEN venue, which was showing the match on a big screen above the stage.

Meanwhile, the Railway Tavern in Dereham was packed with fans who sung, drank and danced their way through the match.

Crowds began flocking to the pub, on Yaxham Road, from 9am, to ensure they got the best seats in the house.

Match predictions from those inside ranged from a 3-0 win to a 5-0 win.

Owner of the Railway Tavern, Paul Sandford said: “It’s taken us four years to get ready for this. We were expecting about 600 people to come out for the match today, I think people come down here for the atmosphere.”

He added: “My prediction for the match was 5-1. I’m sure they’ll win the whole thing. I’d like them to come second in the group for an easier path to the final, but they’ll win it for sure.”

Fans were pleased to see themselves broadcast across the globe on Sky Sports, which was covering the match. However, they were more interested in joining in the national anthem than watching themselves on screen.

At OPEN in Norwich, crowds made their support for the Three Lions known as they jumped up to celebrate Harry Kane’s hat-trick in the 63rd minute.

The venue also played music after every goal to get supporters in the mood.

As the final whistle blew, fans got up and danced together as Three Lions was played in the background.

While supporters were happy, Southgate was in no mood to get carried away with the convincing win.

“I didn’t like the start and I didn’t like the goal at the end, but I thought the bits in the middle were all right,” he said.

“I felt we were a bit anxious at the start.”

He added: “Confidence-wise it was important we were able to score goals. Big moment for Jesse Lingard today especially, great for the captain to get his hat-trick, it meant he didn’t get the hump when I brought him off.”
