The man who styled himself the King of Chavs when he won £9.7m on the lottery is back on the dole after blowing the lot, his agent confirmed last night.

Michael Carroll said he wanted to buy a house, a fishing lake and a Ford Orion, when he turned up to collect his winnings late in 2002 - wearing an electronic tag for breaching an ASBO.

But everything went wrong for the former binman, who enraged his neighbours when he bought a mansion on the outskirts of Swaffham, called The Grange, and held banger races in the garden.

Within months, his young wife had left him and he was spending thousands a day on crack cocaine and drug-fuelled parties.

A string of court appearances for anti-social behaviour charges followed, before he was jailed for nine months for affray, in 2004.

Over the weekend Mr Carroll, now 26, told a tabloid newspaper he had blown his fortune.

Last night Sean Boru, who co-wrote Mr Carroll's autobiography Be Careful What You Wish For, said: “The money is all gone. He's going to be putting The Grange on the market; he's made things up with his ex-wife and he's going to be selling the property and putting the money into a business.”

Yesterday workmen appeared to be clearing the grounds of The Grange, which stands beside the A47 dual carriageway.

There was no answer at the property where Mr Caroll currently lives - a detached property 10 miles away on an estate in Downham Market, called Miss-Be-Haven.

Earlier, the Daily Mail reported Mr Carroll was just as happy living on £42 a week Jobseeker's Allowance as with the £9.7m fortune he won with his first-ever lottery ticket bought at a Downham newsagents.

“The party has ended and it's back to reality. I haven't got two pennies to rub together and that's the way I like it. I find it easier to live off £42 dole than a million.”
