The saga over the stranded Indian crew on a supply ship in Great Yarmouth has finally ended after the vessel was sold this morning.

The Malaviya Twenty, an Indian owned supply vessel, was sold for just over £1m to a Greek shipping company.

It had been stuck in Great Yarmouth since June 2016 following a legal wrangle with its owners, which has seen crew members go months without pay.

The money raised from the sale will go towards paying the crew mens outstanding pay.

Paul Haworth is part of the shipping and international trade team at solicitors Birketts which is representing the crew.

He said: “It is a very happy day, they are all absolutely delighted. One of them has a wedding in two months time so he’ll now be back home for that which is brilliant.”

The four crew men will fly back to India this afternoon.
