FOOTBALL supporters will be hoping the writing isn't on the wall for England's World Cup campaign following their less than convincing start against the USA.

FOOTBALL supporters will be hoping the writing isn't on the wall for England's World Cup campaign following their less than convincing start against the USA.

But it hasn't stopped more Yarmouth residents from hanging flags on walls around the town in support of their country.

Last week, the Mercury reported how 25 residents in Walpole Road and 11 homes in Garfield Road had been decked out in red and white St George Cross flags.

But World Cup fever had already spread to nearby Sturdee Avenue where 14 homes have been decorated in England's colours.

The idea was the brainchild of resident Jason Sendall with help from fellow resident Janet Billingham who collected £90 from neighbours to pay for the colourful display.

She said most of the residents had joined in with the displays, with the exception of one who supported Wales!

She added her street had also put bunting up for the World Cup in Germany in 2006.

England play Algeria today in Cape Town, kick off 7.30pm.
