A motorist in Gorleston has been caught speeding 87mph in a 40mph zone with a newborn baby in the car. The driver was reportedly on the way to register the child’s birth.

Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Armed Policing Team and Road Casualty Reduction Team said the car was spotted on the A47 in Gorleston when they were carrying out speed enforcement checks.

In a tweet, they said: “RCRT carrying out speed enforcement on A47, Gorleston. This is far too fast for the 40mph speed limit! Apparently en-route to register child’s birth. Child was in the car!”
