A Norfolk doctor faces a misconduct tribunal over allegations she did not follow or seek instructions while delivering a baby.

Investigations into Dr Iman Awadalla Moh’d Almabhooh started in Manchester yesterday (January 29) and cover allegations of an incident “on or around July 27, 2015”.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service listing said it would investigate whether “Dr Almabhooh attempted to undertake an instrumental delivery of patient A’s baby, during which she failed to follow or seek instructions from her colleagues to ascertain when it was appropriate to perform a caesarean section”.

The listing added: “It is also alleged that Dr Almabhooh then proceeded to undertake the delivery with a ventouse in the absence of a senior obstetrician.

“It is further alleged that Dr Almabhooh documented in the contemporaneous medical records that during the delivery, she carried out three ventouse pulls, not six, which she knew to be untrue. It is alleged that Dr Almabhooh’s actions were dishonest.”

A ventouse - or vacuum extractor - is a cup-shaped suction device, which fits onto a baby’s head and is pulled to help deliver a baby.

The tribunal is expected to last until February 9.
