A plaque commemorating the fallen was unveiled at police headquarters at Wymondham on Friday and PC Steve Smith would like to invite family members who can be traced to view it.

After collating information about the policemen, who served at Great Yarmouth Borough Police, Norfolk County Constabulary and Norwich City Police, he would also like to share his findings with their relatives.

Though family members of many have been traced, there are some who police still have not found.

PC Smith said: “Without these brave men giving their lives, the world we live in today could be a completely different place. It is only right we recognise their efforts and remember them always in the form of these plaques.

“Some of the relatives of these heroes will be alive today and it is my intention to do my best to locate them and thank them for their ancestor’s dedication and service.”

He said that not all died in combat, with some killed in accidents or by illness.

PC Smith asked anyone who recognises the names or who can identify relatives to call him on 101 or email smiths@norfolk.pnn.police.uk
