Drivers have been urged to take it slow on the roads today following heavy rain fall across Norfolk.

A yellow weather warning for heavy rain is currently in place and the Met Office had warned of the potential for flooding.

Heavy showers have been reported across Norfolk this morning and Sgt Chris Harris, of Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing Unit, urged people to drive to the conditions.

He tweeted: “Lots of reports of flooded roads due to the heavy rain.

“Please slow down to reduce chance of aquaplaning. Even happens to the very best of drivers.”

He added: “Please physically turn your headlights on.

“Don’t rely on daytime running lights or auto headlights.”

The weather warning is in place until 8pm and states “spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.”

Norwich-based Weatherquest predicted that things would settle down and brighten by Sunday.

Forecaster Richard Jones said: “On Sunday things will settle down and we’ll see somewhat more sunshine, with maximum temperatures in-land around 19C to 20C, with things being a little cooler on the coast.

“It will be a mainly dry day, with a small chance of isolated showers in the afternoon. The following week will also start off quite dry and settled, with some chances of mist and fog in the mornings.”
