Police on the Norfolk Broads are reminding boat owners to double check the security of their boats during the winter months.

The warning comes after a recent spate of crime in the Barton Turf and Wroxham area where outboard engines, engine cowling covers and assorted power tools have been stolen.

PC Paul Bassham said: “Boat owners and hirers spend a lot of money buying and maintaining their boats, so the last thing you want is to be a victim of theft.

“It is important to take the security of your boat as seriously as you would your home, ensuring it is left secure and making life difficult for criminals to steal your boat and items on board.”

Broads Beat officers also recommend marking items of property with your postcode.

PC Bassham added: “The other benefit to recording serial numbers and marking your items is the improved chances we have of prosecuting offenders.”
