A 20-YEAR-OLD man who got involved in a fight outside McDonalds and ended up going through its window was jailed for 16 weeks last Thursday .

Alan Hetherington, of Beaconsfield Road, Great Yarmouth, was involved in a fight with his brother Anthony and another man who Hetherington racially abused.

Yarmouth Magistrates heard how on May 17 at around 8.40pm the three men became involved in an argument outside McDonalds on Regent Road.

Prosecuting Alan Wheetman said Hetherington had “thrown several punches” at the man who had been fighting with his brother. He said the fight ended up with the men going through a glass window at McDonalds, causing £2,000 worth of damage.

“The incident was caught on CCTV and it shows a large number of members of the public were in the area including young children and a woman with a pushchair,” said Mr Wheetman.

“He got involved in the incident when his brother was hit but admitted he could have broke it up,” added Mr Wheetman.

Kevin Batch, for Hetherington, said: “It was a fight between three people and the CCTV shows Alan walking away from the altercation. He turns round when his brother is hit.”

Mr Batch said Hetherington was “all out of hours” referring to his current court orders adding unpaid work would be an inappropriate penalty. Hetherington pleaded guilty to racial harassment and threatening behaviour.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment.
