A busy road that was shut for six hours this morning after a power cable came down has re-opened - although 25 homes remain without power.

Police were on the scene at the A1064 between the Caister roundabout and the King’s Head pub in Filby from around 6.10am diverting traffic while engineers worked to remove it.

Anglian Water were also at the scene making sure their pumping stations had power.

The road was closed in both directions, with traffic sent via Filby Lane and along the Ormesby by-pass.

Two HGV’s were reportedly stuck in the closed section.

Martin Kerrison, landlord at the Kings Head said power supplies to the pub were unaffected.

He praised the prompt actions of everyone involved who had to work in difficult conditions to make the area safe.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “UK Power Networks engineers worked quickly to restore power to the majority of customers who lost power when a power line, believed to be damaged by severe weather, came down on the A1064 at 5.56am.

“About 100 customers in the Filby area lost power, and 82 were restored by 7.44am.

“The overhead line was quickly made safe and is being repaired, so that we can restore power to the final 25 properties as soon as possible.”
