SMOKERS in Great Yarmouth and Waveney will be given all the help they need to kick the habit for good during National No Smoking Day on March 11.

Throughout the day stop smoking advisors from NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney will be at local supermarkets and the James Paget University Hospital to give information and advice to smokers who want to quit.

As well as handing out leaflets about where to go for more help, they'll also be able to test people's carbon monoxide levels and offer advice on the treatments which are available, such as nicotine replacement therapies.

Anyone is welcome to attend the drop-in events, which take place at James Paget, Tesco in Leisure Way, Lowestoft and Tesco in Pasteur Road, Yarmouth during the morning and the Britten Shopping Centre in Lowestoft in the afternoon.

“A lot of people find it hard to give up smoking, but knowing that others are going through the same process can often help make it easier,” said Vicki Snelgrove, tobacco control commissioning adviser for NHS Yarmouth and Waveney.

“That's why national No Smoking Day is the perfect platform for all smokers keen to kick the habit once and for all and start a new, smoke-free life.

“Research shows that people are four times more likely to give up successfully if they get specialist support, so we would encourage anyone thinking of stopping to come along to our drop-in sessions on Wednesday to find out how we can help.”

Advisors from NHS Yarmouth and Waveney help hundreds of smokers to stop every year, through group and one-to-one sessions and offering nicotine replacement therapy, such as patches.

Anyone who wants help to stop can contact them on or 0800 085 6037.
