A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place for large parts of eastern England from 3pm today until 9.30am on tomorrow.

There are also warnings for drivers to take care on roads across the region, especially rural untreated routes.

The Met Office chief forecaster’s assessment in the warning states: “A band of sleet and snow will turn more showery overnight but with some heavier bursts possible, especially over East Anglia.

“One to four centimetres of snow is possible in places, though rain and sleet may occur along coasts. Ice may be the more widespread hazard.”

There is also expected to be some delays to travel and due to some untreated surfaces, there could be an increased risk of accidents or injuries.

Norwich-based Weatherquest forecaster Richard Jones said today would get off to a frosty start with a risk of ice across the county.

He said there could be between 4cm to 7cm of snow, but many areas would get no snow at all.
