His mum, Denise, said: “I’m super proud of Ricky and his friends. Some of the runners pushed themselves today to run a greater distance than they have ever run before in their whole lives, all to support Ricky and SON. A huge thank you to everyone who took park and to all those who have supported us through generous sponsorship and by turning up.”

Mr Brown will take part in the 100 metres sprint, long jump and mini javelin.

Kay Bailey from Special Olympics Norfolk said: “We are so delighted for Ricky that so much money has been raised by his fundraising efforts today. His positive attitude and beaming smile has been an inspiration to so many people on the SON athletics team we wish them all the best of luck at the National Games.

“Ricky is such a success story for SON. He has been training with us for three years during which time he has gained so much confidence, he has taken part in regional events and won medals in Boston and Ipswich and most recently in Norwich.”
