Stolen car found burnt out after being driven off Corton Cliffs

A stolen car has been found burnt out at the bottom of Corton Cliffs, near Lowestoft.

HM Coastguard Lowestoft and Southwold and HM Coastguard Happisburgh and Mundesley assisted Suffolk Police investigating reports of two burnt out cars on Tuesday, November 14.

The teams arrived at the scene to find two cars over the cliff edge; one from a previous incident in December last year which had not been recovered.

A spokesman said: “Due to no safe access for the team to the lower beach, and the only access being via the top of the cliff, it was deemed too dangerous for the team to investigate the vehicle down the cliff and teams were stood down.”

The following day members of the Happisburgh and Mundesley cliff team returned to the scene with the appropriate equipment and were able to carry out the search.

The most recent incident involved a silver Ford Fiesta and police have now notified the owner.

Anyone who has any knowledge of the circumstances of the incident should contact Lowestoft police on 101 quoting CAD 211 of Saturday, November 11.
