ONE of the key figures at a Great Yarmouth-based charity that helps with teenage pregnancy has spoken out after it was devastated in a series of burglaries.

Sally Rozier is strategy and development manager at GFS Platform, on South Quay, and is appealing for witnesses after the premises were broken into four times over May.

She said: “We're not a wealthy charity, and there's not a person in this building who is not nervous- it's being taken personally and no one wants to be the first to open up in the morning.”

The charity works with schools to spread sexual and relationship information, as well offering support for teenage mothers and a nursery.

The fears of its staff have been prompted by the increasing violence of the thefts, which, as well as resulting in the loss of four laptops, have caused damage estimated to be in the thousands. In the latest pair of break-ins, which took place between 6.30pm on Friday, May 28 and the following Tuesday, petty cash estimated to be worth more than a hundred pounds was also taken.

“Doors had been kicked in, toys had been scattered across the nursery and the filing cabinets had been broken, leaving us ankle deep in paper- we're still working out what is missing.

“It has caused such upheaval, and the staff are nervous about turning up for work. I would just like to ask anyone that's got any information to go to the police- anything to build up a picture.”
