A restaurant and pub in Gorleston has taken action after a food hygiene inspection found major improvements were necessary.

Toby Carvery Captain Manby, in Sidegate Road, was awarded a food hygiene rating of one when the premise was assessed on May 1.

The report advised that the kitchen, carvery serving area, back yard, front of house and staff room needed to be deep cleaned from top to bottom, stating that “there is so much dirt built up in certain areas that is not acceptable”.

The report also indicated that many food and hand contact surfaces were dirty and in need of cleaning and disinfecting, including taps, ovens, cutlery containers and fridge door handles.

A spokesman on behalf of the restaurant said: “We have been working closely with the local environmental health officer (EHO) to ensure all the issues raised were fixed. The EHO revisited three days after their initial visit and were happy with the immediate progress and actions we had taken.”
