Campaign for two hour train travel between Great Yarmouth and London

A campaign has been launched demanding faster trains times to and from Great Yarmouth.
The East Norfolk Transport Users Association (ENTUA) is pushing for faster travel between Great Yarmouth and the capital.
Its Great Yarmouth in 120 campaign comes off the back of the Norwich in 90 project, which aims to deliver 90 minute journeys between Norwich and London by May 2019.
Now, ENTUA have highlighted the need for Great Yarmouth to be integrated into the plans for improved connectivity. The average time is about two hours and 30 minutes.
A spokesperson for ENTUA said: “We feel that a fast service to and from Norwich to Great Yarmouth could be arranged to connect into the fast Norwich to London trains to improve connectivity to the rail network for passengers from our town.
“This will be quite possible with the arrival on the local lines of the new bi-modal trains from 2019/2020.
“It is important that fast, well priced and reliable services are available to all passengers of Greater Anglia that do not finish at Norwich, but continue to the coast to enhance the experience of rail users to and from Great Yarmouth.
“We are also glad to see that Norwich in 90 is still likely to go ahead, at last bringing East Anglia closer to London.”
Greater Anglia said they expected journey times between Great Yarmouth and London to be reduced, though the two hour target may be unachievable.
A spokesperson said: “Given the importance of robust connections, which usually involve a 10 minute transfer time, it would need significant further upgrades to the rail infrastructure, both between Norwich and London and between Norwich and Great Yarmouth, to achieve a 120 minute end-to-end journey time.
“But we do expect reductions in current journey times following the introduction of our new trains and we continue to work proactively, as part of the Great Eastern Main Line Taskforce, to try and secure further rail infrastructure investment and upgrades.
“We value the input from ENTUA. We work with them on an ongoing basis to keep on improving service standards for customers and local communities and we will continue to do so.”
