East Coast Hospice

A charity aiming to build an independent hospice on the edge of Gorleston is hoping to recruit more volunteers to help with fundraising.

A Volunteers Day is being held on February 25, at Shrublands Community Centre, from 1pm to 4pm to find out more about opportunities available within the growing charity - and to learn more about the project.

Community fundraiser Andrea King said: “Ten charity shops have now opened their doors and are thriving, due to the generosity of the local community who donate items, clothing and furniture. These raise essential funds for this much-needed currently unavailable local facility.”

East Coast Hospice aims to provide the first independent hospice for the residents of the Yarmouth and Waveney areas providing end of life care.

Andrea King added; “We need help to make this facility a reality and community support is vital to us achieving our goal of Raising the Roof.”

  • Statistics on the internet say....There are more than 195,289 registered charities in the UK that raise and spend close to £80 billion a year. Together, they employ more than a million staff – more than our car, aerospace and chemical sectors – and make £13 billion 'asks' for money every year, the equivalent of £200 for each of us in the UK.15 Nov 2014........... WELL... We used to be a growing nation of shop keepers but now the internet is closing shops every month in the UK... So now things are changing and we it seems are now becoming a nation of Charities with 192.000 of them now in the UK.... One could say that over the past and current governments they have failed to provide the health needs and other issues of the nation of today... Many Charities have become a self created reliant need to a growing amount of the public, how we got into this massive charity situation of constantly asking the people for money that many worry about where of how their donations of money are used..... So many reports over many years about miss use of donations. Sadly UK Governments have allowed the need for Charities to boom into many type businesses.... With all the Street canvasing, internet messages and letter demands in the post... and of course the many TV money requests we have every year.... How did we ever get into a situation of such mass charity demands.... So This is the way life is today more charity based each year..... Good Luck to this Venture to the benefit of those that need it... Hopefully the Government will start to provide more of the monetary need that is obviously lacking.... That has created the need for up to 192.000 Charities now...
