Slimmer achieves ‘light Christmas’ dream with 6st 3lbs weight loss and is unrecognisable

A grandmother who couldn’t do stairs is now jogging and full of confidence after shedding more than six stone.

Sharon Irons has lost more than five stone since March and another stone as part of her group’s Christmas weight loss challenge.

The 52-year-old, from Great Yarmouth, found it difficult to breathe most of the time, was unable to walk any distance, and had lost all her confidence.

However, she was determined not to have another year of feeling out of place or uncomfortable in company at Christmas and joined her local Slimming World group at Newtown Methodist Church.

Achieving her light Christmas dream weight has earned her the admiration of group leader Ali Burrell who said Sharon was “a great ambassador and inspiration at the group.”

She added: “In October we asked everyone to think about what they wanted to achieve by Christmas and write it on a special gift tag.

“Everyone’s wishes were different, from weight-loss targets to other victories such as fitting into a certain outfit or being able to do something with their family for the first time.”

Mrs Irons said: “I love Christmas and New Year and I was determined not to have another year of feeling uncomfortable and out of place at family gatherings and parties with friends.

“I have asthma and I found it difficult to breathe most of the time, it was really bad, I couldn’t walk far or do stairs. I had lost my confidence in myself.

“I can’t believe how different I feel and I haven’t had to do anything drastic either, just make small easy changes to my eating and activity levels.

“Now my asthma has improved dramatically, I can jog now and I walk everywhere. My confidence is blooming.

“I’ve learned how to make healthy choices and I know I’ve got the tools to be slim for life, so I’m confident I’ll be able to keep it up throughout 2018 and beyond.

“It’s the best new start I could have given myself for the New Year.”

The group meets Thursdays at 10am or 12 noon.
