A depleted Acle side looked to gain another three points from lowly Watton at Bridewell Lane.

An excellent surface had been prepared by groundsman Kevin Gilbert.

Acle introduced new signing Nathan Thompson on the bench before he replaced Lewis Holsworth during the second period, in which he showed his capabilities.

Once he has settled in he will prove more than adequate in Tony Ward's rebuilding.

Acle have lost the services of Martin Carver and the return of injured Bertie Melo and Lee Rathbone is still some way off.

Further joy for Acle came with the return to fitness of popular Andrew Wright whose re-appearance in an Acle shirt midway through the second half was long overdue.

Acle went ahead after 13 minutes when they worked the ball into the right side of the penalty area to find Lewis Holsworth.

At the second attempt he drove the ball home with Morgan waiting to snap up any rebound.

Acle were well and truly in the driving seat and were to rue the missed chances of a dominating first half before the end of the game.

After 42 minutes Watton were awarded a free-kick 20 yards out which Campbell curled into the net while the official was positioning the Acle wall. This after Acle had squandered several good chances to add to their lead.

Tony Ward's side were their own worst enemies and should have had the points wrapped up long before half-time.

After two wins on the bounce Acle clearly relished the visit of one of the league's lower sides but failed to turn expectancy into reality. Thompson and Wright's second-half appearances brought hope to home supporters but despite all the pressure Acle had wasted a golden opportunity to add to their points total.

Tomorrow Acle enterain Loddon in the Mummery Cup (1.30pm kick-off).
