Great Yarmouth & District Football League

THE league's premier cup competition, the Wiltshire Cup, took centre stage.

Albion, on a high from the previous week, entertained second division Feathers.

Albion struggled to get going and took a one-goal lead at half-time although they did have a penalty saved by the Feathers keeper.

Ben Kiki added a second, Feathers pulled one back, but the first division experience told with three further goals to give Albion a home semi-final against MK United on March 6.

MK booked their semi-final place by winning 6-1 at Shrublands which included a hat-trick for Liam Fuller.

Two ties from the second round where also played after being called off four times in 10 weeks.

Reedham advanced to the quarter-finals and set up a home tie this week with Martham A with a 3-0 win over GY United. Reedham took the lead early on but Yarmouth United had the better chances before two late goals sealed Reedham's place.

Lacon Arms also advanced to set up a repeat of last season's final with Catfield as they defeated a resurgent Caister United A 4-1.

Prostar Windows played Gorleston Wanderers in the Burgess Cup and secured the last semi-final place with a 4-2 win. They face Bohemians on March 20 at Mill Lane.

In Division One, Catfield bounced back from last week to win 5-1 against GY International.

This was the perfect pick-me-up as they play their biggest game in three seasons when they face the favourites West Lynn in the semi-finals of the Junior Cup.

The league wishes them all the best as they look to secure a place at Carrow Road on March 9.

Tramway also seem to be a resurgent team as they defeated close rivals GY Peelers 4-3 in a game which could have gone either way.

The win lifts them out of the drop zone and pushes GY International into it.

In Division Two, Bohemians' relentless run continued with a 2-0 win at home to South Yarmouth. Nearest challengers Norfolk and Chance also won 3-1, against MK United Reserves in a game that saw the visitors reduced to 10 men.

Martham also picked up three points as the defeated Carpathians at Ormesby 5-3, a result that sets them in good spirits for the cup tie at Reedham this week.

The league would like to apologise to the four teams caught up in the venue mix-up at Gorleston Rec last week. Would all clubs please note that

kick-off from tomorrow until the end of the season is now back to 2.30pm.

The league has announced its cup final dates for its showpiece finals. Monday April 5, the Wiltshire Cup final, 10.30am. Wednesday April 14, the Burgess Cup final, 7.30pm. Wednesday April 21, the HA Holmes League Cup final, 7.30pm.

The league is very grateful to Great Yarmouth Town FC for the use of the Wellsley for these finals.
