Alliance success for Gorleston Golf Club pair

There was no Midweek Stableford at Gorleston as there was an Alliance competition at Bungay & Waveney Valley.

Players took part from three clubs and in wet and windy conditions the winners with 41 points were Wayman Arundel and Jim Scott from Gorleston.

Second place on countback with 40 points were Mike Spearritt and Paul Platten, also from Gorleston.

Monthly Medal, Division One: 1 Steve Hall with a nett 69 on countback from Robert Cooper; Division Two: 1 Mike Haylett nett 70 again on countback from Clyde Leggett; Division Three: 1 Martin Bullen with a super 67 nett from Barrie Peake on 70 nett.

Ladies’ Monthly Medal: Silver Division: 1 Heather Harvey with 79 nett on countback from Jackie Walsh; Bronze A: 1 Maureen Duckett with a nett 77 from Sheena Emrick with a nett 79; Bronze B: 1 Rosemary Hodgkin with a nett 84 on countback from Terrie Wilkinson.

There was more good news for Norfolk bowls fans, when, following the success of Wayne Willgress in the open singles, his fiancee Bex Field helped Arbroath’s Darren Burnett send the defending champions Claire Johnston and Nick Brett crashing out of the quarter-finals of the mixed pairs.
