Norwich City Football in the Community (FITC) was in Caister on Tuesday night to visit Caister Youth Club and to present the young people with a brand new table tennis table.

The club members chose the table after they got together to decide how best to spend their equipment bursary as part of the My Club project FITC have recently delivered.

The My Club project sees FITC working with existing youth groups to provide positive activities within their local communities.

Activities offered range from sports such as football, basketball and dodge ball, music and performing arts and health workshops such as cooking skills.

Open on Tuesday nights 6.30-8.30pm, Caister Youth Club offers a variety of activities for 11 to 19 year-olds including sport, healthy eating and creative arts and crafts. The project is designed to target young people with a club they can join in a safe and trusted environment with an aim to help prevent them causing anti-social behaviour, therefore improving the whole community. Youth support workers are always on hand to help with any issues.

The young people were delighted to be presented with the table tennis table and it was not long until they were queuing for a go.

Lead youth support worker Jayne Billman said: “They wanted something the entire community could use, as well as themselves.”

FITC health development manger Dan Goffin said: “The young people of Caister have really embraced the whole healthy lifestyle aims of the My Club project.

The equipment bursary is our way of leaving something behind for the young people to continue enjoying the facilities and support the current youth club provides.”
